Overview & Responsibilities
The Managed Virtualization team is responsible for ensuring the confidentiality, availability and integrity of our customers’ critical infrastructure whilst providing industry leading Fanatical Support to both the customers and other segments of the business.
Rackspace is a Premier VMware vCloud Air Network provider (formerly called VSPP) and as a Virtualization Engineer you will be part of a global team responsible for the world's largest hosted VMware environment with customers & datacenters in the EMEA, APAC and US regions which comprises of over 50,000 virtual machines and 9,000 ESXi hypervisors .
Within this capacity you will be expected to implement, troubleshoot and configure of all Rackspace's Managed Virtualization solutions including but not limited to VMware vSphere, Site Recovery Manager (SRM), vROPS (formely VCOPS), VMware vCloud Director as well as some other 3rd party solutions.
In addition, you will be required to be customer facing as well as serve as an escalation point for your peers or other business units. The majority of the work will be received and solved using the Rackspace ticketing system .
Implementation and troubleshooting of VMware based virtualization products (including but not limited to vSphere, SRM and vCloud Director)
Interact with Rackspace's customer base through a combination of tickets and phone calls.
Testing, tuning and documenting customer's VMware environments.While conducting the implementation, you will also perform knowledge transfer to customers and look for additional opportunities to help improve their environment.
Perform consultation, implementation, documentation and knowledge transfer for new and existing customers.
Stay up to date on emerging technologies and products, including attending trainings, attaining certifications and participation in industry events as appropriate.
Bring new ideas and methodologies to improve the department.
Monitor and basic maintenance of all related infrastructure.
Works with vendors to resolve hardware and software issues.
Participate in ad-hoc projects as defined by architects to improve the virtualization infrastructure.
Strong hands-on technical knowledge of VMware vSphere and Virtual infrastructure in general.
Ability to work in a complex ticket based environment.
Ability to apply sound troubleshooting methodology in order to isolate and resolve the root cause of reported issues
Experience of implementing and troubleshooting the VMware product suit.
Responsible for performing final QC of builds and maintenances.
VCP preferred and VCAP advantageous
Excellent verbal and written communication across all levels of seniority and the customer base
Escalates to senior Engineers/Architects or vendors as appropriate
Exhausts all reasonable efforts to solve issues in an independent, collaborative manner prior to escalation
