Rackspace Storage and Backup Engineer - 2nd Shift in San Antonio, Texas
Overview & Responsibilities
We are currently seeking a Storage & Backup Engineer to join our growing team at Rackspace.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: Responsible for day to day monitoring, maintenance and development of the Backup & Storage infrastructure throughout our global datacenters. BSI Engineers have an extensive knowledge of storage & backup technologies and will handle escalations, and where necessary, work through these issues to resolution with the appropriate vendor.
JOB COMPLEXITY: Works on level I tickets as required. Builds new SAN and Backup Infrastructure configurations. Performs troubleshooting for host end to end connectivity, host-side SAN specific software, and non-critical SAN component failures. Escalates critical component failures to higher level engineers. Participates in a 24x7 on-call rotation with peers. Strategic planning for improving processes and procedures. Assists with projects to improve performance, efficiency, experience, and capacity of environments. Resolves escalated customer issues.
Intermediate technical knowledge in technology troubleshooting methodologies, design, and implementation. Intermediate written and verbal communication skills. Intermediate interpersonal skills, time management skills, problem solving and analytical skills. Ability to resolve problems in a timely manner, and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Basic knowledge and understanding of troubleshooting, testing, and performance tuning in SAN platforms. Basic knowledge of SAN and Backup best practices for current VMware, Windows and Linux operation systems, Files systems, SQL, MySQL, Oracle, and Exchange. Strong working knowledge of Fiber Channel SAN concepts and technologies.
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent required. Requires 4 year of information systems experience and system administration experience indicating an intermediate understanding of Storage and Backup technology. Minimum 1 year SAN, Backup or Fiber Channel switch experience and experience in a customer service oriented position
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: General office environment. May require long periods sitting and viewing a computer monitor. Moderate levels of stress may occur at times. No special physical demands required. Occasional domestic travel, less than 10%.
SCHEDULE: Work schedule is Wed-SAT 2PM-1AM. Willingness to work scheduling weekends, and holidays.
