Rackspace NAS Storage Engineer - 2nd Shift in Austin, Texas

Overview & Responsibilities

- This position is during 2nd shift hours with the days of the weeks to be determined.

- There will be on call duties assigned for this position.

- The location is open to either San Antonio or Austin, Texas. There is no remote work available at this time.

  • PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the NAS storage infrastructure, including customer onboarding support, decommissions, pre-sales support, performance analysis and tuning, troubleshooting, maintenance, and project management.

  • KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITY: Strong attention to detail. Strong technical knowledge in NAS Storage technology, troubleshooting methodologies, design, and implementation. Able to resolve problems in a timely manner, and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Good working knowledge of NetApp FAS 2000, 3000 and 8000 series controllers, Clustered Data ONTAP, FlexClone, SnapMirror, SnapVault, MultiStore, SnapRestore, and SnapDrive. Good working knowledge of Isilon NL and X series Nodes, OneFS, SyncIQ, SnapshotIQ, SmartPools, SmartQuotas, and SmartConnect. Intermediate server operating systems and server hardware knowledge required (Windows or Linux). ESX knowledge is desirable. Basic working knowledge of how to physically and virtually install and configure various NetApp and Isilon models. Intermediate working knowledge of how VMWare, SQL 2003 and 2008, Oracle, Microsoft Exchange 2003, 2008, and 2012 work with the OS layer. Intermediate knowledge of storage concepts and networking. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Strong time management skills. Strong problem solving and analytical skills. Due to the 24X7 operations of the business, must be able to work a flexible work schedule, may include nights, weekends, and holidays. Ability to provide FANATICAL support.

  • JOB COMPLEXITY: Works on level II tickets as required, and handles level I escalations. Designs new NAS configurations. Conducts quality control for new builds and approves complex NAS deployment and build requests. Provides equipment order details to authorized purchasing personnel. Handles Sev2/Sev1 incident escalations and advanced troubleshooting issues including storage to host troubleshooting tickets and Array-wide issues. Creates initial NAS design specifications. Handles medium to large configuration questions, complex One-Off configuration questions, and out of scope One-Off configuration approvals. Conducts Array performance and customer environment analysis and helps with performance tuning. Plans, schedules, implements, and supports NAS maintenance activities including: remote deployment of adding shelves to Arrays; Array code upgrades and software feature maintenances; replication and migration configuration its setup and cutover; NAS hardware upgrades and installations; assisting architects with Datacenter deployments; and the deployment of NAS equipment. Provides project management for NAS related tasks. Proactively reviews NAS environments. Develops process improvements and approves recommendations of level I engineers. Provides customers with analytics on storage device performance and makes basic recommendations on how to improve performance.

Qualifications

  • SUPERVISION: Requires limited assistance to perform duties. Mentors Level I - III support admins, peer storage engineers, and Datacenter technicians.

  • EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of information systems experience and system administration experience indicating an intermediate understanding of Storage technology is required. At the manager’s discretion, additional relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement.Minimum 3 years of NAS experience and 3 years of experience in a customer service oriented position which includes at least 1 year of experience in a leadership role.

  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS: General office environment. May require long periods sitting and viewing a computer monitor. Moderate levels of stress may occur at times. No special physical demands required.
