Rackspace Infrastructure Monitoring Engineer in Bethesda, Maryland

Overview & Responsibilities

Job Purpose:

We are looking for an Engineer to provide EM7 Monitoring Support for a major client located in Bethesda Maryland. This will require 3 day/week onsite in Bethesda and 2 days/week in our Reston Office.

Responsibilities/Role:

Daily responsibilities include, but not limited to, system monitoring, alerting, problem logging, and coordinate tasks effectively to troubleshoot issues for prompt resolution. You will need to aggressively own problems until they are solved.

  • Follow and enhance existing process and procedures

  • Observe and control the status and performance of system components and network facilities

  • Identifies, diagnoses and resolves problems affecting system and network performance

  • Answers incoming problem call from customer and internal sites and resolves associated tickets

  • Write incidents reports & keep a timeline of events during outage periods

  • Follow procedures; provide updates, ask questions, take action, follow up on missing, incomplete or unresolved issues

  • Follow documented NOC standards and procedures

  • Support MS and Unix web and application servers and SQL based applications and databases

  • US. Citizen with ability to obtain and hold a Public Trust

  • Strong experience with monitoring tools such as Nagios, HP Openview, Solarwinds to use EM7 from ScienceLogic.

  • Strong knowledge of Linux based Systems Administration.

  • Experience/knowledge of NOC Operations.

  • Experience with ITIL procedures

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows platforms

  • Ability to debug complex technical problems

  • Experience working with Active Directory

  • Experience with TCP/IP networking protocols and applications

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Previous experience with escalation procedures and SLA (Service Level Agreement)

  • Technical writing and documentation (write HOWTO's)

  • Valid experience and strong personal communication skills with enterprise-level clients

Beneficial:

  • Strong knowledge of Linux Systems Administration & Red Hat Enterprise.

  • Solid NOC experience; monitoring tools, such as Nagios, ScienceLogic EM7 or HP OpenView, creating tickets using products such as Remedy, coordinating engineers to resolve issues in an effective manner, and assist with document resolutions and other documentation

  • ScienceLogic EM7 Certification highly desirable (will train if not).
