Rackspace Director, Applications Product Marketing in Remote, United States
Overview & Responsibilities
The Rackspace Application Services Product Marketing Director develops and executes application product and market strategy initiatives by capturing market insight and translating it into actionable, differentiated products and programs which benefit customers and drive revenue. This includes working in a cross functional capacity to develop and successfully execute strategic and tactical marketing plans.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide leadership and strategic direction for the application marketing processes and key marketing deliverables by establishing strategies and plans that support corporate and business objectives.
Develop and implement marketing programs from concept to completion, using metrics to drive success and continuous improvement.
Employ analytical tools to create, monitor effectiveness of, and make adjustments to, e-commerce activities, online marketing campaigns, search engine marketing, web content and social media activities.
In conjunction with product management, establish and enhance application product offering through identifying and assessing product and market opportunities and outlining road maps to align with company objectives.
In collaboration with product management, translate market research data, customer feedback, and technology trends into product requirements
Perform market analysis including market models, and strategic direction to meet application and business objectives.
Participate as a member of cross functional product development teams.
Manage application product promotional activities, product training/educational tools and marketing direction to field sales and other strategic channels.
Lead application marketing efforts to understand segment influencers including customer demographics, competitive assessments, and market needs.
Establish and maintain external relationships including analysts, market research forums and application specific relationships.
Partner with finance, sales, and product management to develop the forecast and manage operational issues for application services.
Define and implement clear product positioning, pricing, and messaging for application services and all associated products.
Keep up-to-date on new developments and trends to understand customer and market needs for application products.
Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Business or Marketing with Application background required.
7+ years of successful related business experience in a Product Marketing role, preferably in an application services provider related industry.
Demonstrated success working as an integral cross functional team member. Tangible experience of routinely working with customers, preferably in sales, technical or market research related role.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Comprehensive understanding of the application marketing and product planning process.
Strong strategic planning and tactical implementation experience in marketing across various outlets including web-based, traditional, multi-media, etc.
Financial analysis skills.
Experience with developing and executing product launch strategies and tactics.
Experience working with a variety of different sales/distribution partners: Direct sales force, Independent sales reps, product management and OEM partners.
Knowledge and experience in developing business plans to drive and support application strategies.
Strong cross-functional management skills with demonstrated ability to effectively utilize internal resources to meet project deadlines and objectives.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to listen and assess customer needs, translating those stated customer requests into need statements, prioritize needs/requirements, and communicate them cross-functionally.
Excellent leadership, presentation, and negotiation skills to work effectively in driving a application strategy and participating as a member of cross functional teams.
Ability to properly determine key market research priorities, and use the appropriate market research methodologies to quantify market behavior either through quantitative, qualitative or analytical research tools.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work cross-functionally with teams such as Engineering, Operations, Sales, and Corporate Communications.
Strong relationship building skills to constructively foster relationships internally and externally, including key opinion leaders.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
High level of motivation with the ability to operate as an individual and team contributor.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project).
Ability to travel up to 20% of the time.
MBA, Business/Marketing Management.
Applicationl aptitude toward Oracle, SAP and packaged applicaitons
eCommerce experience, with a working knowledge of e-commerce platforms, promotions, online advertising, social media and Search Engine Optimization and Marketing efforts.
Prior product marketing experience working within a retail environment.
Experience working with US and international markets.
