Rackspace Product Manager in San Antonio, Texas
Overview & Responsibilities
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: Ensures achievement of strategic revenue objectives for the Managed Hosting Compute and Bare Metal as a Service product families. Partners with Managed Hosting Marketing to understand market trends and needs. Plays a proactive role in product planning and design to ensure the product is differentiated from competitors in the marketplace. Collaborates to develop content for marketing collateral and sales training to ensure successful product launches. Involved throughout the entire life cycle of the product, working closely with Solution Architects, Product Engineers, Product Operations, Vendors and other Rackspace teams from product initiation to delivery to eventual product retirement.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITY: Advanced knowledge of the following domains:
IT industry and server/compute product domain.
Advanced understanding of business and computing market trends as it relates to the hosting industry, private, and public cloud technologies.
Advanced knowledge of product development life cycle with relevant experience in 1 or more phases.
Strong knowledge of Server/Compute Infrastructure, Intel x86 architectures, and data center design as it pertains to rack level infrastructure.
Manage cross-functional teams in product design and planning, business, and product engineering.
Develop metrics/KPIs to assess the success of products and features, as well as determine necessary enhancements
Collaborate with customers, team members, and external partners to ensure a solid understanding of product area and related technologies to build robust product portfolio to grow the Managed Hosting Business.
JOB COMPLEXITY: Medium strategic and tactical level contributor. Manages the success of assigned products and develops requirements for future product releases. Influences Product Line Strategies and can manage the end to end product lifecycle. Develops business cases for new offerings. Researches and creates product requirements docs. Facilitates build vs. buy analysis. Works with Product Marketing Manager regarding companywide communications. Researches competitors’ products, assesses competitive advantages and determines what product features and functionality will be built. May be asked to mentor or coach other PM’s.
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree required, plus five (5)years related experience (technology and/or product management). BS in Technology or Business preferred. MBA preferred. Educational foundation in compute science/engineering and/or marketing.
